Hjörleifur Hróðmarsson was the brother-in-law and travel companion of Ingólfur Arnarson, the very fist settler of Iceland and founder of Reykjavík. Upon his arrival to Iceland, Hjörleifur settled near Vík but was murdered by his slaves a short time later. Ingólfur avenged him and had him buried near his farm. His body was then moved to the top of the Hjörleifshöfði mountain and buried under a mound in the Viking fashion.
The staff from Norður-Vík hostel will take you to on a hiking tour where you can enjoy the beauty of the Icelandic wilderness and visit Hjörleifur ‘s resting place.
